I’ve transferred to a different clinic but I still miss my nurses from my old clinic. We thought a Sat after work would be a good time for a meet-up. Unfortunately, the Lunar New Year was looming and everyone was busy with spring cleaning. Luckily, DrGoodEats and one of the nurses was still able to make it. And since DrGoodEats always knows where the best places to eat, we relied on her to do her research and pick a place.
She picked Atlashouse. Which is located on Duke’s Road in Bukit Merah. When I first got there (after trekking all the way from Bedok), there was a long line outside the door and my heart temporarily sank. I mean, this is a brunch cafe. And it was already 1.30pm. What in blazes are Singaporeans doing brunch at 1.30pm? Its already lunch! After a quick phone call, it was quickly established that DrGoodEats had the hindsight to make reservations. Phew.
Obviously, coffee was ordered first. I had a latte. Not too bad. Just the correct amount of milk. Plus, I’ve always had a soft spot for the classic flower design.
And then we ordered some truffle fries as an appetizer followed by a mushroom toast with scrambled eggs which I thought was delicious. We also ordered the mushroom pasta. I thought the pasta was a little too heavy but the other two ladies really enjoyed it.
This was followed rather quickly by dessert. The chocolate tart is my favorite (better than the one at Prego). And the waffle ice cream was really good. I can’t remember what sort of cream puff or doughnut we ordered, but I do remember it was very generously dusted with sugar.
Overall, not a bad place to go hangout. But its terribly crowded and I felt a little rushed. Yes, I know. Its a weekend. Bound to be rushed no matter what. But given the distance, I’m quite certain that I would have been able to find something just as nice in the East. That said, the company was good and we were very well fed in the end. Total bill was $104. So a little pricey, but really, quite standard for a hipster joint.
