Sometimes the simplest meal is the best. Ya Kun is one of the more well known home grown coffeeshop in Singapore. It doesn’t sell frou frou coffee like frappacino or lattes. But their coffees are good and simple. They are known for their kaya toast, essentially coconut jam between toasted bread with a bit of butter. And the watery soft boiled eggs are also a specialty. I’ve noticed that the watery soft boiled eggs is very much a South East Asian habit. When we were in Macau, no one knew what we were talking about when we were describing it. As far as I can figure out, the British eat soft boiled eggs too but theirs are more or less fully formed. A lot of Singaporeans can be found on a lazy morning sipping their watery soft boiled eggs directly from the saucer and wiping up any remains with their toast. Its absolutely delicious. Give it a try. You won’t regret it.
