ok parents, when you bring your little tyke to your pediatrician’s office with a chief complaint of “crying inconsolably”, it immediately sets up alarm bells like trauma, bowel obstruction, intussusception, malrotation, appendicitis, etc. But when a child is crying inconsolably, it means that even while you are carrying him and holding him, he won’t stop crying for more than 20mins. If he stops crying everytime you pick him up, he is consolable. And if he starts crying everytime you put him down, he’s irritable, he’s whiny because he’s sick but he is, and I repeat, he is NOT INCONSOLABLE!!!
